CATALOGUES GALORE!
With the poinsettias all grown and sales of them going strong, our staff turns to spring. We are working on planting schedules for early spring crops. One of my favorite things to do around this time is to sit with a fresh cup of coffee and browse through the many seed catalogs I get daily.
Since Payne’s is a locally owned nursery, we attempt to grow about 80 percent of what is offered. Some of the plants come in as baby seedlings with the root ball about the size of a sugar cube and others are started from seed. Because of this, we carry a little bit of a lot of different plants. I have had customers tell me they find plants at Payne’s that they remember were growing in their grandmother’s garden. That is a good feeling.
Since I am retiring, finally, some of the staff is moving to the North store (304 Camino Alire) as the property of the South store has been sold. Payne’s hopes you will continue to support us by going to the North store in the future.
HAPPY HOLIDAYS!
