Polygonum aubertii
Birds, bees and butterflies love the delicate white flowers of silver lace vines that can be seen all over town from mid-summer to frost on fences, arbors and walls. These vines can be planted in any well-drained soil, but they need strong supports to grow on; however, we don’t recommend growing them next to the house.
They need moderate watering and it’s a good idea to apply iron twice during their growing season (ask a Payne’s professional for guidance about this).
This is a fast-growing vine which means it needs annual pruning to control size and sprawl. One way to control size is to pinch back new growth at the end of the stems to force the plant to branch out lower on the vine.
Prune in early spring before the vine sprouts new growth. Take out dead, discolored or diseased branches.
