Pinus nigra
A densely branched pyramid shape, this handsome tree grows moderately quickly to 30′ in height in various types of soils. Six-inch long, deep-green needles contribute to its attractiveness and make it a fine specimen tree. Their stiff, strong branches resist breakage under heavy snow or ice loads.
Once established, Austrian pines tolerate a variety of conditions, including heat and drought. For best results water regularly spring through winter for the first two or three years, then their natural vigor and hardiness means they will require less water.
