Weigela florida 'Alexandra'
The beauty of this decorative bush goes far beyond its dark burgundy leaves and hot pink flowers — it is easy to grow and easy care, and it blooms profusely in spring and early summer, attracting bees and butterflies.
Once established, it only requires a once-weekly deep watering.
It should be pruned right after it flowers, but not before it blooms because the new flowers bloom on “old wood” (the prior year’s growth).
Because the dark leaves provide great contrast, Weigela Wine and Roses is often used as a background for flower borders. But it also looks great as a stand-alone bush.
